High profile issues, areas of concern

Below are some areas of public policy where logic and reason appear to have taken a back seat to various other considerations. Hastings Rationals would like to see the state and federal governments approach these issues more reasonably and develop more positive, equitable and rational long-term policies.

In no particular order, our main concerns are:

Government funded public schools chaplaincy program;
Embryonic stem cell research, therapeutic cloning;
Gay marriage / same-sex civil unions / end of legal discrimination against gay couples;
Religion in public schools (including teaching of "Intelligent Design");
Response to Islamic extremism (a.k.a. "terrorism");
Tax benefits for churches and religious organisations;
Funding for (predominately religious, and generally well-resourced) private schools, at the expense of our chronically under-funded public school system;
Euthanasia, "Right to die";
Classification and censorship;
Multiculturalism and religious diversity;
Climate change (and environmental issues generally).
